In response to some comments, I would like to mention that the second monitor is cmmonly useless for everyday users. Thus very practical for professionnal users such as image editors professionnals or else, professinal developpers. In either Photoshop or Visual Studio, for instance, the toolbars can be located on that second display device for a better view on the main screen. The only down-point is that second display allows a poorest display quality. However, when used as a toolbar screen, who cares really? The maximum resolution of the 2nd display unit is 1200 pixels in height, when the main display is capable of 1280. Despite this slight resolution difference, dragging windows from the main to this secondary display is as easy as 1-2-3! Plus, it’s done almost instantly as for the resolution equivalencies. The draw-down is mainly when windows are dragged back to the main screen. It seems to have a little trick that doesn’t go perfect, but that’s all. As for the colour calibrator, it works only for the main display device, thus making it impossible for the 10.6 inches secondary display.
I would like to mention that if you need a long time battery life, that’s maybe not the notebook you want. Assuming the secondary display is turned off, and you’re running it slow, the battery will last about 3.5 hours only, in camparison to about 5 hours for the W500, for instance. Assuming that you’re using the secondary display, this drops battery life by half for only about 1.5 hours battery autonomy. Then again, you’re using it slow! If you push it for medium-hard work, the battery life drops again offering only about 1 hour of battery life, despite this is a 9 cell Ion battery. However, if you’re going to use it mainly near by a source of electricity, this is the top of the notebook you can have. None can compare with it.
Thank you Will for such a wonderful post. very informative
